1 Chapter 1: Welcome to the University of North Alabama
Welcome to FYE 101:
We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant and supportive community as you embark on an exciting chapter of your academic journey. The First Year Experience (FYE) is designed to provide you with a strong foundation for success, both academically and personally, as you transition into university life.
During this course, you will have the opportunity to explore various aspects of campus resources, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop essential skills that will empower you throughout your time at the University of North Alabama (UNA) and beyond. Our goal is to assist you in navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with being a first-year student, while fostering a sense of belonging within our university community.
As you immerse yourself in this course, you will connect with fellow classmates, faculty members, and dedicated staff who are here to guide and support you every step of the way. From academic advisors and Collier Library staff, to professors and career development coaches, our team is committed to helping you achieve your goals and make the most of your college experience.
In addition to the academic component, your FYE course will introduce you to the rich campus life at UNA. You will discover the wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations that cater to diverse interests. We encourage you to get involved and embrace the many opportunities available to you. By doing so, you will develop friendships, cultivate leadership skills, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Remember that you are not alone on this journey. Your peers are also navigating the transition, and together, you will build a supportive network. Lean on one another, collaborate, and celebrate each other’s accomplishments. The friendships you forge here will be invaluable, serving as a source of inspiration and encouragement.

FYE Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize campus resources and co-curricular experiences that promote academic success (via use of academic support services) and personal development (via use of student development services).

FYE Mission:
The mission of the First Year Experience Program is to assist students with their transition to college and aid in the retention of students at the University of North Alabama. The First Experience Program helps new students at the University of North Alabama achieve success and start understanding their passions.
